Hotel Identity Branding: The Raj Palace

For this project we were tasked with redesigning the branding for a hotel anywhere in the world. I wanted to integrate theme of a historical hotel and updating their old design to something more modern.

Position Board and Initial Sketches.

For my position board I wanted to focus on the color and the fact that the hotel is a heritage hotel. A heritage hotel is a hotel that is that repurposed from a historical site and turned into a hotel. In The Raj Palace’s case it was repurposed from an old Indian king’s palace. So with that in mind I wanted to integrate the historical aspect as well as the feeling of stepping into another world while you were there at the hotel. I also wanted to capture the warm color pallet that is present in much of Indian culture.

In Hindi Raj can be translated into King. So with that in mind I wanted to integrate that into the logo, hence the the glyph in the logo that looks like an A with out the crossbar. That was a call back to old style crowns that Indian kings would wear and also it was meant to act as a portal because when one goes to The Raj Palace, it feels like getting transported back into time.

Final Logo and Executions.
